The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship is now an official feeder series for the Mazda Road To Indy and will be awarding its 2018 Champion a ticket to the MRTI USF2000 $200K Scholarship Shootout. F1600 is widely recognized as a great training ground for aspiring young drivers to make the step from karting to cars with a career in motorsports in mind. Many of today's top drivers got their start in F1600 in series around the world.

With Verizon IndyCar Series stars Spencer Pigot and Josef Newgarden having both participated in the Toyo Tires F1600 Championship along with Indy Lights star Dalton Kellett, the new partnership is a natural fit. All three rungs of the ladder had TTF1600 alumni competing.

“We are delighted to join the many championships from around the world as an Official Feeder Series to the Mazda Road to Indy Shootout program,” said Toyo Tires F1600 steering committee member Brian Graham.” What the Mazda Road to Indy has created with the scholarships is widely recognized as the best opportunity in open-wheel racing. The 2018 Toyo Tires F1600 Championship grid is building for the upcoming season and now there is even more to be excited about.”

The championship kicks off at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park May 11-13 with the first three rounds of the 18-race season. With reigning Champion Ben Hurst graduating to British F3 it will be a new name trying to capture the title and the ticket to the MRTI Scholarship Shootout.

The MRTI joins a list of supporters including Toyo Tires, HPD, FEL, MK Technologies, Cove Dentistry, and Wayne Gretzky wines.
